THE new chief executive officer for the National Information Communication Technology Authority (Nicta) is expected to be announced next week, Communication and Information Technology Minister Timothy Masiu says.
Masiu said Nicta’s current chief executive Charles Punaha’s term had expired hence the position had been advertised in June.
Masiu said three candidates had been shortlisted and the selection panel would appoint the new chief executive soon.
“They have gone through all the final details of the selection process, have found the last three candidates and the recommendations have been reached,” he said.
“The announcement will be done next week for the new Nicta CEO, new chairman for Nicta board and a member of the universal access service (UAS).”
Masiu had previously told The National that the term of the chief executive was between three to five years provided under the National Information Communication Act 2009 and was subject to the determination of the appointment committee. According to the position vacancy notice advertised in The National on Mon, June 22, Nicta’s board comprised four members; three being non-executive members including the chairman, an independent expert, and the chief executive officer (ex officio).
The members were appointed by the Nicta appointment committee chaired by the prime minister.
Nicta is the governing agency responsible for the regulation and licensing of ICT companies in the country.
