NID has Xmas plan for teachers

A MOBILE registration team for the National Identity project will register teachers registration during the Christmas break in all provinces, an official says.
Acting Registrar-General of the PNG Civil and Identity Registry Noel Mobiha said this during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the departments of education and national planning and monitoring.
“There are about 59,000 teachers in the country and we are given around three months to get them all registered – by the end of March next year,” he said.
“This is a huge task, but we are committed to making sure this is delivered. We will be establishing a mobile registration team in all the provinces, specifically for teachers to register,” Mobiha said.
He urged teachers on holidays to make themselves available at the provincial capital or the nearest district or station.
Mobiha said only about 1000 teachers have been registered.
“We have around 59,000 teachers, so it’s a big task, especially in provinces that are very big and remote such as the Western and Morobe,” he said.
“But we will develop our strategies and overcome the challenges to deliver on this expectation and target.”
He said one of the strategies was to recruit teams of between 25 and 30.
“Since it’s a very challenging job due to our very challenging geographical setting, we are recruiting young and energetic people to carry out the job,” Mobiha said.
“We have all the young people now so they are flexible to walk and go far and wide to conduct the registration.”
