The National Identification Card (NID) mobile programme in Port Moresby is progressing well and more than 18,000 people have registered, project director Roko Koloma said yesterday.

“According to the daily tally, a good number of residents have registered in less than two weeks,” Koloma said.

“So far the progressive tally stands at 18,625 (as of Tuesday), with Kila Kila-Kaugere areas taking the lead with the highest number, 3829, and Laloki-Napa Napa with 1173.

“The tally shows that there were more NID card registrations, particularly those 18 years and above compared with  registration for birth certificates alone, which included children.

“The response from the public is so positive and the mobile registration number is anticipated to grow as the exercise continues.”

Koloma thanked youths, churches, community leaders, police, the media and residents for participating in the registration.

“Our appeal is for the residents to continue to come forward and register.”
