NIP cops stop arresting suspects

POLICE in New Ireland have stopped arresting new suspects due to the lockdown and the national and district courts being closed.
New Ireland police commander Supt Gideon Ikumu said policing duties were as normal, with patrols still being carried out.
Investigations on complaints reported were continuing and police were preparing court files and suspects were being questioned and interviewed.
Supt Ikumu said there were early-morning raids by criminals in the town last Tuesday and Wednesday and police were on full alert.
He said people were taking advantage of the current situation.
“We will step up on our operations and will try to identify the suspects and those who are taking advantage of the situation.”
