FOR the first time, the people of Nipa Kutubu have celebrated the independence in their respective local level government areas, thanks to Governor William Powi and local Member of Parliament Jeffery Komal for making funds available.
Acting district administrator Joe Pereap said from Nipa that the people celebrated a peaceful independence celebration with huge fund of K30,000 each from the two members.
He said the five local level government areas of Mount Bosave, Kutubu, Poroma and Nembi Plateau received K10,000 each while Nipa received K20,000 for the celebrations.
He said the K60,000 funding was the first of its kind for the two new members which contributed to a well planned and peaceful celebration.
Pereap said he received many positive comments from the public that the independence was celebrated in true spirit of unity with different activities.
He said people took the time to remember the day when PNG got its independence 37 years ago.
Pereap said the independence day reflected the past and made us to think about the future so that we could make changes in the district.
He said the huge funding from the new leaders was a sign of better things to come for the province.
