NIPA sub-district in Southern Highlands is ready to host basketball events in the coming PNG Games to be held in Southern Highlands.
The club sponsored by Southern Highlands deputy provincial administrator Fiebik Kilip competed at the recently completed 14h National Souths Basketball League (NSBL) tournament.
“Nipa has changed and we want to get involved in sports and other activities to keep ourselves busy and acknowledge developments and services flowing into the Nipa-Kutubu district,” Kilip said.
“All of these youths playing for FK Nipa Suora came directly from villages in Nipa. They came united to play in the NSBL tournament.”
The team comprised talent from Nipa, Poroma and Nembi Pleatau.
Kilip said the participation of local talent, both male and female, from Nipa showed that Nipa was ready to host the PNG games basketball competition.
Kilip said he felt obliged to support the Nipa team to the National Souths tournament given that he was a Nipa native himself and wanted to see young men and women from the district have the honour and experience of representing their people.
He acknowledged the efforts of NSBL chairman Johnny Yawari for making it possible for the tournament to be staged.
