No callout for Oro remandees

BIRU Jail commander Teddy Beaga says there will not be a callout for the 16 remandees during this month’s session in Popondetta as directed by the Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika.
He explained that the court callout process was a roll call for the remandees who were awaiting court hearing to determine their cases.
Beaga said they had informed the remandees that the process would not take place this time for security reasons.
Beaga said Sir Gibbs, who arrived in Popondetta yesterday for the monthly National Court circuit, had advised that he would be carrying out a short sentencing session for cases that were ready.
He said Sir Gibbs had informed the prison officials that he would be in Popondetta until today due to the tense situation in Southern Highlands.
Northern does not have a resident judge so the National Court circuits were conducted every month, with visiting judges dealing with outstanding cases.
“We have been advised that due to the situation in the Southern Highlands, Sir Gibbs would not be carrying out the full two-week court circuit,” Beaga said.
“He will only carry out sentencing of the cases that were prepared from the last court circuit.”
