ALL grade 8 students last year in Western Highlands have progressed to grade 9, according to happy Governor Paias Wingti.
Wingti said there were no grade 8 dropouts because more high schools had been built by the provincial government in the past five years to take in everyone.
Wingti said despite the budget cut last year, the province achieved many of the things they had planned to achieve. The province built new high schools, the Kapal Haus, the new provincial headquarters and rural housing.
Wingti said construction of new high schools would wind down this year. They will also settle some outstanding payments for the contractor building Kapal Haus and had allocated K20 million in the 2018 budget for it.
Wingti said by 2022, all students coming out of secondary schools would go to colleges and tertiary institutions in the province.
The province is also building a new court house and homes for judges.
Chief Justice Sir Salamoi Injia and his team came up with K12 million from their own budget and his government is allocating K6 million in this year’s budget.
He wants Hagen courthouse to host Supreme Court sittings like at Waigani in Port Moresby.
