No money for CCTV

MORE than half of the CCTV cameras installed in the National Capital District for surveillance are not working because they have not been fully paid for, Governor Powes Parkop says.
He said it would cost the NCD commission about K4 million to get them operational.
“If we pay the debt owed to the company that installed the cameras, they will get them working,” he told The National.
The cameras were installed for Apec 2018.
Parkop said a rapid response taskforce would also be needed to respond to crimes caught on camera once they were operational.
“You can get images when there is a commission of crime but if there is no response team, then the CCTV does not have much use,” he said.
“Of course, we want to get evidence of a crime but if we can prevent the crime while it is being commissioned, it will be even better.”
Parkop did not provide the actual number of cameras installed but said about 40 per cent of them were operational.
“NCD Met Supt Perou N’dranou has told me about setting up a taskforce so I just have to meet with him again and we will find the money,” he said.
