KILBIRE Primary School in Kundiawa, Chimbu, will no longer have water supply problems when the new academic year starts.
Bank South Pacific will install two new Juffa tanks there as a community project.
The project will
include a proper base
for the tanks, drainage and landscaping around the tank and school
area.
Pipes will be connected from the tank to a gravelled area to make it easier for students and staff to access water.
Kilbire Primary School headmaster
Joe Ire said they had suffered from a shortage of water for a long
time.
Ire said the school, set up in 1999, had received limited support to
fund basic facilities to cater for the 300 students.
He praised the bank for continuing to see the plight of schools in the province and helping.
Clean drinking water is an issue for schools in the province and the bank’s Kundiawa branch has been helping with similar projects since 2009.
In 2009, three water tanks were delivered to Kundiawa Lutheran, Kundiawa Technical and Kundiawa Elementary schools.
In 2010, two water tanks were given to Pinorkwa Primary and last year a tank each to Ku Primary and Ku High School.
Kundiawa branch manager Albert Seri said his team was happy to deliver the projects
as it addressed the
need for clean drinking water for school children.
“For this year, we started our project early so students will have clean water when school starts and we encourage them to look after the tanks for future students,” Seri said.
