MADANG residents who turned up at a planned dawn service to remember our war heroes this week went home disappointed after no officials turned up.
They were expecting officials from the provincial administration, Rotary, Melanesian Foundation and members of the disciplined forces to organise the annual event.
Frustrated resident Bhreed Kinzhali later went to the residence of Governor Jim Kas to seek an explanation.
“I thought the best thing to do was to at least have the national anthem sung as the Divine Word University students came in numbers,” he said.
Kinzhali then organised those who turned up to stage an impromptu ceremony.
