No reason to fight over water

Letters

WATER is essential for the preservation of life.
It is one of the greatest gifts given free by God in his righteous might and glory.
Without water life on Earth will cease to exist.
Complex chemical reactions involving water and carbon dioxide in the presence of sunlight leads to the synthesis of glucose – a sugar that is important to the sustenance of life.
This reaction occurs in nature and, thankfully, it is free of charge and has no monetary value. One might perhaps wonder what it would be like to live in a world where ownership of such an important natural process belonged to an individual.
Water is a gift from Mother Nature and should be rendered free to any living organism any time anywhere. Sadly, this is not the case.
Public institutions like schools and hospitals are often held at ransom by locals who claim ownership of rivers and creeks and demand prodigious sums of money under dubiously deplorable circumstances.
Unlike land, rivers do not have permanent owners as they are known to travel through many lands.
Rivers and creeks exist without any human effort. Mother Nature maintains the water cycle so that rivers and creeks continue to flow all year round.
If labour and capital have been invested to supply water to efficiently support human activities, especially in towns and cities, then there are calculated costs that should warrant monetary charges.
Without labour and capital investment, who are you to think that you own the rivers or any other natural water source?
Water should be consumed free of charge and landowners should refrain from imposing massive claims that is shameful and ridiculous in nature, especially from public institutions.
