I have travelled twice on Lutheran Shipping’s mv Mamose and mv Rita between Wewak and Madang and there was no safety messages on what we should do during an emergency.
We were also never told where the life jackets were kept.
Passengers were allowed to smoke on the top deck which was enclosed.
Once, I saw hundreds of buai bags being loaded into the cargo hold.
The loading of these bags took some three hours as our vessel only left after 6pm when it was supposed to be 3pm.
Following the sinking of the mv Rabaul Queen, I hope the the ship operator will do the right thing.
We appreciate the important service but passengers’ safety must be a priority.
