THERE are only a few spots available for the National Women’s Snooker Titles.
PNG Women-in-Snooker president Bobbie McCarthy said 35 players had confirmed their participation and the remaining five spots should be filled before registration today.
“The response from women has been overwhelming and we should have the 40 players needed by close-of-business today,” McCarthy said.
She said the draws and briefing would be held at 5pm at the Dragon’s Den next Monday.
The competition will cue off tomorrow, with eight pools of five players per pool.
“Stiff competition is expected from PNG representatives Helen Samuel, Madeleine Kaina, Damita Bray and rising talents Dolly Berua and Rhonda English,” McCarthy said.
The president thanked National Gaming Control Board for their sponsorship of K40,000 of the event.
“This is the second year NGCB has come on board as official naming rights sponsors and we thank them for their valued support. I’d also like to thank platinum sponsors Kerridale Ltd, Pacific MMI Insurance and The National, gold sponsors Click TV, Grafitti Signs, Huawei, LJ Hooker and Niche Cues, silver sponsor Street Scene and bronze sponsors Budget Real Estate and Seeto Kui for their assitance.”
The tournament will be played at four venues — Dragons Den, Aviat club, Laguna Hotel and Q Club.
McCarthy extended the women’s appreciation to the management and staff for the use of their facilities.
The tournament director is Richard Whitchurch.
The finals will be held next Saturday at the Q Club followed by the presentation.
