NOMINATIONS for the East and South Pangia local level government election in Southern Highlands progressed well up to the deadline last Friday, an official said.

Assistant returning officer Samson Pulu said seven people were contesting the president’s seat in the sole East Pangia LLG.

There are 136 that have been nominated for the 31 wards.

Pulu said no woman was nominated.

He said candidates vying for the president’s seats arrived with their groups of supporters to file

their nominations.

Pulu urged the people of Pangia to reject bribes from candidates but pray to God to help them choose the best leaders.

South LLG official Thomas Kapia said 12 had been nominated for president and 100 as council members.

He said rumours of violence had no substance and assured the people that the election would be peaceful.
