The National – Tuesday, July 5, 2011

THE Telikom National Soccer League (NSL) yesterday opened its expression of interest to current and interested franchises to nominate teams to participate in 2011-12 football season.
The nomination will close on July 27.
The chairman of NSL John Kapi Natto said under the new regulation, each franchise would pay a non-refundable nomination fee of K10,000 while the annual subscription fee of K75,000 remained unchanged.
He said the 2011-12 season comprised of three rounds, and the finals would run over 21 weeks with  a four-week break over the festive period.
NSL Board is adopting these changes to ensure all NSL sponsors and franchise clubs receive adequate exposure the media.
Kapi Natto said in an effort to improve quality and standard of the semi-professional matches, the NSL board decided to reduce the number of franchise clubs to six.
The competition will commence mid-October after screening and accepting of nominations
Application can be collected at the PNGFA/NSL office (Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex, Waigani, or contact the office on phone/fax 323 2591).
With the recruitment of new NSL business development manager Chris Brown, the chairman said it hoped that NSL would be self sustainable after years of relying on PNG Football Association.
When contacted yesterday afternoon, Brown said it would not further deliberate on the NSL as Kapi Natto has prepared the statement on that.
