NONDUGL rugby league competition in Western Highlands will commence its season proper this weekend.
After a seven-week pre-season with its grand final last week, only seven clubs wilcl take part in this season, one less than last year.
The pre-season final was witnessed by PNGRFL general manager Joe Tokam.
The reduction of clubs was due to a recommendation by PNGRFL to make the competition easier to manage.
The opening game tomorrow will see Bismark Rangers Bulldogs take on Station Royals in the main A grade fixture.
Royals, last year’s minor premiers, are tipped to cause havoc for the Wiri Ngamb boys of Bismark.
In the other match, the boys from savannah grassland Kulpin Brothers might find it a rough ride when they face Kusipil Panthers.
The Panthers will be led by agile five-eighth and skipper Ken Belden and veteran centre Chris Koima against an inexperienced brethren.
Brothers will be led by never-say-die forward and captain John Battery.
On Sunday, Highway Tarangau which hails from the Okuk Highlands Highway will take on Mountain Tigers.
Elusive Tigers fullback Victor Wene will have to sharpen his claws to stop the high-flying Tarangau.
