THE 2012 electoral roll is far better than past ones, a former legal adviser to the electoral commission says.
Prof John Nonggorr said since being involved with the election process as an adviser in the 1997, 2002 and 2007 elections, he could tell that the 2012 roll was much better.
He said the 2007 roll was better than the 2002 roll and the 2012 one was even better.
Nonggorr said that there would be names missing, names of dead people still being on the roll and other problems but “there is never a 100% perfect common roll anywhere in the world”.
He said past common rolls had serious problems but members of parliament had never asked for a deferral of the election.
“Why call for deferral this time, when the common roll is certainly much better than in the previous elections?” he asked.
Nonggorr made the comments during his address to Divine Word University students and staff in Madang last Thursday.
