North-East schools competition not recognised: Nema

THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) says it does not recognise the North-East Schools Rugby League competition.
PNGRFL competition and development manager Toksy Nema told The National yesterday that the competition at Gordon was not affiliated with the national body.
Nema said the competition was suspended due to alleged misappropriation of affiliation and players registration fees.
“That is an illegal competition not approved by PNGRFL, thus children there are playing at their own risk,” he said.
“PNGRFL will not be held responsible.
“No selection will be done from that competition for the national schools tournament.
“The only schools competition in the city recognised by PNGRFL is the one at Konedobu.”
Meanwhile, National Capital District schools competition coordinator Joseph Dongari said players in the U14, U16 and U18 divisions had been identified for the national selection trials.
