MORESBY North-East MP Labi Amaiu, pictured, last Friday honoured his commitment by donating K50,000 to the Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) and the Port Moresby Women’s Rugby League (POMWRFL) for the 2013 season.
When handing over a cheque to POMRFL board chairman Samson Unagi, Labi said his support for these two rugby league competitions was done as the former PRL chairman and the political head of the North-East electorate.
“I initiated women’s league and want to see its prosper – growing from strength to strength – and I will continue to support them,” he said.
The money was drawn from his District Services Improvement Programme (DSIP) funds.
He said he would support other major sports like soccer and softball as they were played in his electorate.
He urged administrators from these two sports to contact his North-East electorate officials immediately for financial support.
Port Moresby Softball League will receive their K20,000 this month after returning from their successful national championships in Kavieng, while soccer will follow soon.
Labi appealed to sports officials to use their money in resourceful manner so they could be eligible for continued support.
