Northern, Central police to investigate deaths

NORTHERN police will work with their Central counterparts in investigating the deaths of two teenagers along the Kokoda Track.
Acting Northern police commander Snr Insp Sailas Tojune said his office was looking into the deaths after the bodies of the teenagers were found at Myola at the border of Central and Northern near the 96km track.
He said Central police attended to the incident first but the post-mortem were done at the Popondetta General Hospital.
“We have the post-mortem report but Central police are also investigating so we have to talk with them and come up with an understanding.
“We are willing to investigate but we have to wait for clearance from Southern commanders and National Capital District/Central commands.”
Snr Insp Tojune said both teenagers were cousins and were from Northern.
However, Central police commander Chief Insp Tapp Opai said that they were not investigating the incident.
Acting Northern administrator Trevor Magei said the teenagers probably died of hypothermia (exposure to cold) and were found about 40km away from Ower’s corner near Sogeri in Central.
