The Oro (Northern) government yesterday presented K39.1 million in acquittals to the Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD).
Northern Governor Gary Juffa, who presented them, said they did not receive the full amount of K50 million owed through the provincial services improvement programme (PSIP) funds for 2013 to 2017.
“It’s the PSIP, that’s all we got as well as the special support infrastructure grant which is supported to receive over five years of K10 million each,” Juffa said.
“SSI grants are to help smaller provinces that do not have significant internal revenue base to try to help grow their revenue.
“We received the first payment in 2013 and thereafter we have not received any payment.
He said the national government owed the provincial government about K61 million for the past five years.
“We are supposed to receive PSIP of K50 million and another SSIG of K50 million so a totally of K100 million but of the PSIP we only received about K29.1 million and SSI we only receive d K10million — a total of K39.1 million. He said much of the funding went to health, education, law and order.
DIRD acting secretary Aihi Vaki accepted the acquittals from Governor Juffa saying that Northern was a problem province but acknowledged him and the team for the efforts to deliver the acquittals.
