Not a new govt but a new thinking
The National – Friday, August 5th 2011
THE recent change of the government does not necessarily mean PNG will change for the better.
Although the government is directly responsible for development and well-being of its citizens, the problem we have to solve is the mental aspect as we need to think differently.
Our most important need today is not to amend existing laws, is not about more money, not more LNG projects or gold mines and not even a new government.
What we need today is a moral, quality and principle-centred leadership which can do the right thing.
We are in the 21st century, yet leadership quality is lacking.
In fact, there is a big vacuum for a 21st century leadership.
Many of our so-called leaders lack the ability to provide the leadership that is required.
It is evident by their shallow and poor decisions they make.
They are not creative and cannot see where this country will be in five, 10 or 20 years from now.
Some of our political leaders appear to engage in mafia-style criminal activities with some public servants and private companies to fraudulently steal millions of public funds.
We know the system is corrupted and bribery is the order of the day but there is no will to get rid of this cancer.
The greatest tragedy is the impact on the next generation of leaders and after that.
If this country wants to experience change, improvement and advancement, then it requires a leadership with moral, quality and principles.
Every citizen of this nation must be aware of what a genuine and true leadership is and we have the power to make or break this nation by the choices we make.
Our children and grandchildren’s future depends on the choices we make.
Before we cast our votes next year, we must look at the candidates and analyse their background and what they stand for.
