ASST Police Comm Anthony Wagambie Jr has reminded the public that not all police officers are bad.
Asst Comm Wagambie, who is also the divisional police commander for the National Capital District and Central, said only a few police officers tarnished the reputation of the hardworking majority.
He made this known in light of complaints made by the public on Facebook, alleging police misconduct within the NCD and Central police commands.
He assured his support in any investigation into allegations of police misconduct and encouraged more interaction between members of the public to report allegations.
The emails for complaints and reports on alleged police misconduct are: [email protected] and copy to [email protected]
Wagambie said people could also inbox the Police NCD/Central Divisional Command Facebook page.
“I want us to serve law-abiding citizens well, deal with offenders firmly but humanely,” he said.
“It’s now time to weed out the rotten apples so that complaints against police do not demoralise our hardworking committed personnel.
“We also have to work hard to win back public confidence.”
Asst Comm Wagambie said he had requested a toll free number to be allocated to the police internal affairs directorate and was awaiting a response.
He said the toll free number has apart from the landline which had been issued by the state of emergency controller. According to a statement from the police on its NCD/Central Divisional Command Facebook page, victims of alleged police misconduct case had to be interviewed by internal affairs investigators so that signed statements could be taken.
“An official complaint with signed statements will ensure that necessary administrative and/or criminal process can take place,” police said in the statement.
“We ask that everyone has patience and comply with state of emergency orders issued by the controller (David Manning) on behalf of the Government.”

  • Well, then get rid of those few rascals in uniform….
If they drink and misbehave, or steal and assault people they have no discipline. They will do it again and again. So best thing is too charge them and throw them out of the force without and way to get benefits. You as the boss have to set a precedence in how you impose tough measure and discipline into the force and weed out corrupt and undisciplined and rough officers. Otherwise the name of PNG RC will always be dragged through mud.

  • Having a toll free number to report alleged police misconduct has been the only solution put forth and nothing has changed in the service men’s conduct.

Better start seriously reviewing the recruitment and traing policies and improve commanders roles and responsibilities. Teach every servicemen and women their ethos and code of conduct and strongly uphold the disciplinary procedures for any breech of service conduct.

  • I agree with the comments above The policemen & policewomen who are doing this also extorting money from general public are breaching the very law that they are supposed to uphold. Cane they be disciplined and terminated-from the force, they are not fit to wear the blue uniform that they are supposed to wear with pride.

  • Engrave officers names on uniform, easy to identify and report any misconduct or stupid and rubbish behaviour caused. The toll free number is there already, just making it easy to general public to act when something not right in the event.
