Not doing enough

Letters

T is disturbing to note that almost all SOEs (State of entities) are not doing enough to live up to their mandates of revenue generators for the state.
Instead they are being bailed out through the national budget to fund their operations and shortfalls which is seen to be incompetent at its best on their side as they are not doing enough to modernise their operations to generate revenue to fund their operations, declare profits, and pay dividends to the state.
One of the worst SOE’s is PNG Power Ltd which is doing nothing to improve its performance where its customer service is at an all-time low and how its operations staff attend to customer queries are deplorable.
The position taken by the current acting MD to right size the company is the right direction to take and so the company need to take more commercial approach in conducting its business so as to ensure profit is declared and dividends paid to the state.
Therefore, it is high time KCHL and State Enterprises Minister sit down together to take some remedial and diagnostic approaches to ensure SOE’s like PPL live up to its mandate of Revenue Generating Business Arm of the state.
