SIMBU province is mourning the death of a pioneer provincial politician.
Jospeh Miugle Bina, of Gurnigle village in the Gembogl district, died last Friday at the Kundiawa General Hospital after a long illness.
Nominated member in the provincial assembly John Sande announced Mr Bina’s death yesterday.
As president of Mt Wilhelm local level government, which was later split into Niglkande and Mitnande LLGs, he was instrumental in pushing for roads and bridges to be built, Gurnigle Primary School, foot bridges and the former Mt Wilhelm timber mill and health centres.
Mr Sande said his community service was recognised by former prime minister Sir Julius Chan with a special award.
Mr Bina’s body, now at the Goroka Funeral Home, will be flown to Simbu this week for a funeral service and burial at his Gurnigle village.
He left behind by his wife Karr Bina, five children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
