THE Papua New Guinea Football Association and its proposed National Soccer League in 2019 will be bigger and better, covering the four regions of the country and with the bids stacking in, the NSL office will cease accepting further expressions of interests (EOI) today.
With the vision of new PNGFA president John Kapi Natto for soccer to reach all corners of the country, it is evident that the NSL has really attracted old and new clubs from the four regions and has shown great interest that football will become bigger than before.
President Kapi Natto and the PNGFA management are confident that NSL will kick off successfully around the four regions: Southern, Northern, Highlands and the New Guinea Islands.
Some of the new clubs that have given their EOI and fees in the Highlands are Aporomai of Hekari, Kagua Erave of Southern Highlands, Laima of Wabag, Blue Kumuls and Hagen FC of Western Highlands and possibly Simbu FC.
Kapi Natto said the sport in PNG was entering a new and exciting phase and he commended the local parliamentary members and the governors for their support.
“I want to thank them for standing behind the future football stars of their provinces,” Kapi Natto said.
In the NGI conference, NSL office acknowledged and thanked Coastal Shipping Company of Rabaul for making a donation of K50,000 to NSL to cover the EOI fees for six clubs in the NGI region.
Three new clubs confirm to participate are: Radazz (Kokopo), Admiralty Peliau (Manus) and Bougainville FC (AROB), while Kimbe will possibly have West Tribe and NBPOL Football Association might field one.
“All have until today to complete their EOI forms, therefore the NSL management is calling on the parliamentary leaders of these provinces including business houses to come forward and support Coastal Shipping Limited with the proposed clubs that will be taking part in the NGI Conference NSL for the first time,” the PNGFA said in a media statement.
Kapi Natto said he was excited and could not wait to see the clubs play each other in their conference for the first time in 14 years.
In the Northern Conference: Toti City, Morobe Wawens, Morobe United, Lahi United, Markham, Finchafen and Bulolo are from Lae while Madang maybe fielding three clubs — possibly Madang, Tusbab Stallions and Laiwaden.
In Southern Conference, for NSL champions Hekari United, Southern Strikers, Gulf Erima, Central United, Mungkas, Star Mountain of Tabubil, and PMSA.
The proposed NSL venues are: PNG Football Stadium (POM), Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium (Lae), Laiwaden Oval (Madang), Kiminiga Oval (Hagen), NSI Oval (Goroka), Muthuvel Stadium (Kimbe) and Kalabong or Kokopo Ceremonial Oval (Kokopo).
