SAILOR Rose-Lee Numa secured Papua New Guinea’s second spot at this year’s Tokyo Olympics after she qualified at last week’s World Laser Championships in Melbourne, Australia.
Numa is the second Papua New Guinean to claim a spot at the Games after her 20-year-old brother Teariki Numa’s qualification at the same event last month.
Rose-Lee Numa finished second in the Oceania quota behind Fiji, with Australia and New Zealand already qualifying for the Olympics.
The siblings were PNG’s target athletes for the Olympics and had been in intensive training over the last four years.
Following Teariki’s success Sailing PNG president Graham Numa said he remained confident that they would qualify another spot for the country through Rose-Lee.
He is very pleased with the results, saying that the two will continue their build-up towards the Olympics which will be held between July 24 and Aug 9.
Apart from their programme in Port Moresby, the pair will undergo additional training in Brisbane.
