THE PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) annual general meeting did not go ahead in Lae last Saturday because the Waigani National Court had ordered a stay on  it last Wednesday.
The PNGRFL board interim chairman John Numapo is expected to produce evidence today in court, showing that necessary arrangements to host the proposed (last Saturday’s) meeting, had taken into account the interest of all stakeholders of PNGRFL in terms of fair representation and addressing progressive agendas for the development and enhancement of the national game.
The interim PNGRFL board had an in-house row as to the date for the AGM and other affairs of PNGRFL.
There had been stalemates and challenges through motions that had its initial court history in 2009.
It is understood the since April 8, there had been an interim committee set up as ordered by the court.
It was at that date that the interim committee was ordered to host the AGM by or before Wednesday (Nov 30).
Last Wednesday, the court was told that the AGM set for last Saturday was to comply with the orders of April 8.
However, Justice Ambeng Kandakasi had issued an injunctive order for Saturday’s meeting saying that compliance with a court order did not mean other necessary factors to constitute the meeting should remain blurry to concerned stakeholders. The matter stems from a motion filed by interim committee member Gary Juffa and parties aligned with him who had taken interim chairman John Numapo to court.
Juffa and his group had claimed that Numapo had run the show unilaterally, and the date setting of the AGM for last Saturday was a single-handed decision by Numapo.
All parties are expected to appear in court today for further mention on the matter.
