MORE than 5,200 doses of the Sinopharm coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine have been administered and the number of people seeking vaccination is fast growing, Chinese medical team assistant captain and consultant neonatologist Dr Liu Zhenqui says.
“Of the 5,233 doses administered as of Thursday, 604 doses were taken up by Papua New Guineans and foreigners that included Filipinos, Australians, New Zealanders, Nepalese, Indonesians and others,” he said.
Dr Liu said when the vaccination station in Port Moresby General Hospital opened last Monday, 60 people were vaccinated, followed by 120 each on Tuesday and Wednesday, 150 on Thursday and 210 doses yesterday.
“There was no adverse reaction from any of the people who accepted the vaccine,” he said. “We are increasing the number of doses brought here every day because more people are coming.
“Vaccine is the most powerful means to fight against the pandemic, so we are making it more convenient for the people.”
to be vaccinated. We think there should be more Sinopharm vaccination sites in the city and nationwide,” he added.
He said after a week’s support, the PMGH vaccination team was now able to speedily handle the vaccination programme on their own.
Liu said the vaccination programme in the hospital was open from 2pm to 4pm from Monday to Friday to anyone aged between 18 and 60.
