Nurses from private nursing school receive practice licences

NURSES trained at a private institute in the National Capital District will be able to find nursing jobs anywhere in the world with the licence of practice offered by the institute, says its executive director.
Asia Pacific Institute of Applied Social, Economic and Technical Studies (Apisets) executive director, Thomas Pillar said the licence of practice offered by the institute gave nurses who graduated at the institute a wide range of job opportunities in health care.
Pillar said this during a small ceremony last Thursday where three nurses received their licenses of practice at Hohola where the institute is based.
“Not only does the institute provide three years of quality training for nursing students but it also gives them a ticket to explore the world with just one piece of paper,” he said.
He said two batches of nurses who had graduated earlier had no problem securing jobs around the country.
“In this third batch, four nursing sisters should have received their licenses, however, the fourth one, also a female, is away for personal reasons and will receive hers when she returns,” he said.
“Since its establishment in 2014, the institute has been recognised by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST).
He said the institute’s health and science programmes have also been approved and were supported by the Health Department.
Pillar said that the University of Technology (UOT) in Lae had signed a memorandum of understanding with the institute allowing it to offer similar training programmes that were offered at the university.
He said that the institute supported the Government and the Education Department in providing young men and women with opportunities in education and equiping them with skills.
