LACK of facilities to accommodate students on clinical practice within Madang has resulted in extra costs for the Lutheran School of Nursing.
Principal Vitus Amugar said every year they look for rural health facilities in the province to send students for their clinical practice as this minimises expenditure costs, but this has not always been possible.
“Students undergoing clinical placements in health facilities outside of the province are charged to pay for accommodation at the health facilities they serve in,” he said.
Until recently, agreements on students’ accommodation were based on an understanding that students’ provide extra manpower at the health facilities they serve in and the health facilities provided supervision of students.
Unfortunately this has not been happening recently and the school is being charged for accommodation costs for students by the health facilities, Amugar said.
