THE New Zealand High Commission hosted the Kiwi contingent of the Brisbane Broncos on Saturday morning for a breakfast meet-and-greet with staff and members of the Kiwi community.
The four Broncos players were Alex Glenn, Kodi Nikorima, Jordan Kahu and Jamayne Isaako.
Glenn, who captained the Broncos during the trial match, spoke of the excitement of the fans that greeted them at the airport and during their community engagements.
“This is my first time to PNG and I’ve always heard about the strong following that the Broncos have up here. But I didn’t expect it to be this big and this passionate. Everywhere we went we were treated like rock stars, your welcome was just phenomenal,” Glenn said.
“Everywhere we went we have people chasing us and shouting at us. We were bringing smiles to their faces. It just surreal, it’s an experience that I will never forget and I will always cherish. I have a lot of respect for the PNG community and the support that you give to the club.”
Nikorima said the Broncos have put a disappointing 2017 behind them, with their full attention on a top four finish in 2018.
“Definitely in the last 20 minutes of the games we tend to drop off, taking our foot off the pedal. That is an area of our game that we have worked on. Like every year we are aiming for a top four finish, with every chance of making it to the grand final,” he said.
“At the moment I enjoy playing in the halves, that’s where I see myself in the future and that’s where I definitely want to play.
“I’ve trained in pre-season just in that one position and I definitely want to make it my own.”
