PNG and Australia will work together to ensure that there are no corrupt practices in use of Australian aid funds, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill says.

He said this in light of PNG having a greater say in use of AusAID funds, which had led to fear of corrupt practices, especially among PNG public servants.

“I think these are unfounded,” O’Neill said when asked about possible corrupt practices.

“We know for a fact that there are very strong drives now on anti-corruption issues.

“We’ve got a Task Force Sweep that is now doing excellent work.

“We’ve established an Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC). We already have AusAID workers in finance and treasury, as well as other departments, so all these fears are unfounded.”
