PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill presented K20 million to the Solomon Islands government during a brief visit last Friday.

He made this presentation to his Solomon Islands (SI) counterpart, Gordon Darcy Lilo, at the Heritage Park Hotel in Honiara.

“To further strengthen the PNG-SI bilateral cooperation, I am here to present the first tranche of the K100 million grant in aid – K20 million, to the Solomon Islands government and inform you of the completion of construction of the PNG Chancery,” O’Neill said.

He said despite the many challenges faced by PNG in the areas of education, health and law and order, it was important to assist the Pacific Island communities, given the recent positive economic growth levels being experienced in PNG over the last 11 years.

O’Neill invited Solomon Islands and other Pacific nations to participate in the economic growth being experienced by PNG through employment and investment opportunities now and in the medium term.
