PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill last night said he was instructing his lawyers to sue Opposition Leader Belden Namah, EMTV and reporter Scott Waide for defamation.

It was in response to “malicious and wild allegations” against O’Neill made by Namah in Morobe and aired by EMTV last night.

Namah had claimed on EMTV that O’Neill financially benefited from contracts awarded by the national government.

“The prime minister was not only shocked that a leader holding such a high

office could make such allegations, but also that a media outlet could actually broadcast it in its entirety,” a statement from the PM’s office last night said.

“I’m not only suing Namah for defamation. “I will also hold him criminally liable for what he has said.

“This has gone on for a while and I’m fed up.

“I’ve been patient with him for too long,” the prime minister said.

“He does not have a licence to open his mouth

and make wild and unfounded allegations against anyone.

“He has to provide evidence or account for what he has said.”

O’Neill also said he was disappointed with EMTV for airing the claims, adding that EMTV and reporter Scott Waide would face defamation proceedings.
