PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill was on his heels when PNG’s point-guard Betty Angula beat the opposition on several occasions to net vital baskets in the crucial stages of their Pool A match at the Taurama Aquatic Centre on Monday night.

O’Neill watched the PNG women take on Guam after officiating at the swimming medal presentation earlier in the evening.

He was amazed at the way Angula played against Team Guam and followed closely every moment Angula had possession and exhibited her skill and style to score points.

It appeared that on several occasions she kept the Prime Minister in awe with her individual brilliance.

Angula, 23, happens to be from the PM’s Pangia district in Southern Highlands.

PNG started off badly, but the presence of the O’Neill must have inspired them to win the match in extra time.

The local women came from behind to beat Guam 98-89 after they were stretched to the limit by the visitors in the Pool A fixture.

Angula and her team lost their first game to hot favourites Tahiti 90- 57.

After Round 2 the Pool A points tally shows and unbeaten Tahiti on 4 points followed by PNG on 3, Guam 3 and Nauru 2.
