PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill sat among leaders of 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation members as the one-day meeting started on Sunday at the JW Marriott Hotel, Ihilani, Hawaii.
As host, United States President Barack Obama welcomed the leaders and urged them to fully take part in the meeting so that their individual economies could benefit.
Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama held a reception in honour of Apec leaders last Sunday night at the Hale Koa Hotel, Waikiki, where leaders and spouses had their photographs taken with the president and his wife.
Immediately after his arrival last Wednesday evening, O’Neill attended bilateral meetings as well as chaired a meeting of Pacific Island leaders at the University of Hawaii’s East-West Centre at Manoa last Thursday morning.
O’Neill and wife Lynda Babao had the
opportunity to meet and talk to Obama and his wife.
Later that afternoon, O’Neill and Babao visited the Mormon church-run Brigham Young University, at Laie, on the north shore, where about 20 Papua New Guineans were studying.
