OC can probe me anytime

Briefs, Letters

I REFER to the letter by “Loyal cop” of Port Moresby (The National, Oct 28) who called on the police ombudsman oversight to investigate whether I am benefiting from MoUs signed with various organisations.
I did not benefit personally from these arrangements and I welcome any investigation.
However, since I oversee the police ombudsman oversight, and subject to the Leadership Code, I would advise the writer to make an official complaint to the Ombudsman Commission for it to investigate me instead.
Trial by and through the media is counter-productive.
Raising and publishing misinformation does not help anyone.
Allow me to make a correction to the writer’s letter, and that is the RPNGC has not signed an MoU with TST.
We have signed MoUs with the following organisations for the training of their employees as reserve police constables – Air Niugini, BSP, National Parliament, Justice & Attorney-General, Barrick Gold Ltd and Lihir Gold Ltd.
For the record, my instructions are explicit.
No policeman, policewoman or reservist is to be engaged under any private security or escort arrangements outside of the existing MoUs.
The public is expected to hold our police officers accountable.
