PAPUA New Guinean rookie Hewago Oea has signed a one-year extension with Gold Coast Suns until the end of the 2022 Australia Football League (AFL) season.
He first joined the Suns on an international scholarship from PNG in 2018 before graduating to the rookie list last year.
A lively small forward, Oea played seven Victorian Football League matches for the Suns this year, averaging 19 disposals, three tackles and four marks per game while also booting three goals.
“I’m excited to sign on with the club for the coming season,” he said.
“I’m really stoked to get back on the list again.
“For me, coming from a different country into a different environment here, I feel comfortable — the boys and staff have helped me a lot.
“I’ve learned heaps to get some confidence and start my year strongly.
“I can’t wait for the new season.
“My biggest goal is to stay injury-free, so I can play good footy and hopefully get a game (in the AFL).”
