THE National Statistics Office ended its training for the 2020 census in Port Moresby yesterday with participants from Western, New Ireland, West New Britain, Central and the National Capital District.
Team leader and research and development officer Shirley Kali said the training started last Sunday and ended yesterday as participants went out for their first practical training at Daure St, Gordon.
“We have two participants from each of these provinces,” she said.
“The purpose of this was to train the interviewers on how to ask questions and fill out the questionnaire while out in the field and get quality information.
“We have standards and procedures which we comply with.
“We have regional and international standards.
“So we have to test the questionnaire if it’s suitable for both rural and urban areas.”
Kali said the training was in preparation for the pilot census enumerations which would begin on July 12.
Meanwhile, regional census coordinator Raka Lofena said the listing for the census project woul be done sometime in February.
