THE Markham district administrative headquarters will be moved from Mutzing to the Umi plains.

Daki Mao, the Umi-Atzera local level government president, revealed this at a Bush Kibung (meeting) at Boana, Nawaeb.

Mao, the Morobe provincial chairman of the government investment committee, was speaking on behalf of Markham MP who was in Port Moresby attending a Cabinet meeting.

Mao said the construction of the new district headquarters would cost K10million. FTM Construction has already begun construction work.

Mao said officers from the Lands and Urbanisation division were working on subdividing the land into allotments and sections.

He said a further K3m had been allocated from the district services improvement programme funds to build an office duplex to house the MP, district administrator, LLG presidents and public servants.

Mao said they had to move because the Mangaing River was washing away land near Mutzing, leaving little space for expansion.

He said a rural hospital, a police station, a police cell and the district administrator’s residence would also be constructed.
