Officer burnt my home: Woman

 AN elderly mother and wife of a policeman lost everything she owned when one of her husband’s colleagues torched the house she was living in, she claimed.

Maria Bali (pictured) said she lost household goods and items worth at least K6000 when the policeman arrived in an official vehicle at her kunai-thatched house at the Kainantu Police Barracks and set it alight on Dec 18.

The policeman alleged that Bali was practicing sorcery and had caused the death of his son.  

“I was in Goroka that night. My other sister and her spouse witnessed the act under the cover of darkness, Bali claimed. I’m now afraid to return to Kainantu, where I lived for many years, because he (policeman) might hurt me.”Bali wants justice. Police sources indicated that they will conduct an investigation into the incident and determine the next course of action. She had lodged a formal complaint with Goroka police.
