A GOODENOUGH Island local level government officer is fighting for his life after he was attacked and slashed by bush knife-wielding villagers in Milne Bay’s Kiriwina-Goodenough on Saturday, Papua New Guinea Defence Force Sgt (R) Michael Tobessa says.
“Area manager Francis Mikuya was rushed to the Alotau General Hospital where he was admitted with life-threatening injuries,” he said.
Sgt Tobessa said the villagers attacked Mikuya at the wharf upon his arrival at Bolubolu station from Alotau.
“It looks like a planned attack as the villagers did not attack the other passengers who arrived at Bolubolu with Mikuya,” he said.
“We do not know the cause of the attack but a report will be submitted to police to investigate the attack.”
