Officer moots tourism police concept for international events

CHIEF of police security at the fifth Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture Kabib Lamu has mooted the concept of “tourism police” as a follow-on from the event.
He told a press conference last Friday that the festival highlighted the need for specialist “tourism police” to provide security for such events.
“The concept itself is something that I’ve been dreaming of,” he said.
“I want to see tourism police established in the constabulary so that when there are such events in future, tourism police will be there to take care of everything for us.
“Let us work together so that we can launch tourism police in Papua New Guinea.”
Lamu said the event was generally trouble-free and commended all his officers for a job well done, despite the fact that the country was going through a political crisis during that period.
