Officer suspended over death

A SENIOR policemen attached to the Maprik Police Station in East Sepik has been suspended after he allegedly shot and killed a man, police commander Supt Albert Beli says.
He said the officer was only three months into his new role as the station commander when the incident happened on Friday.
The incident occurred between 10pm and 11pm near the Naramko area of Maprik.
Supt Beli said the officer was in the company of another female constable, they were parked beside the road at Naramko when four suspects approached them.
“Questions on what the two were doing at that time and place, which was quite a distance from the Maprik Police Station, would be answered after an investigation,” he said.
Supt Beli said the suspects approached the officer and shone a torch to his face, blinding him.
He said they attacked the officer with a knife, chopping off two of his fingers.
They turned onto the female cop and wounded her left hand.
Supt Beli said while all this was going on, the officer took out his gun and shot into the dark, killing one of the suspects and others escaped.
He said the two officers received helped at the Naramko community health post. The officer was suspended for 21 days.
“Chief Sgt Ambrose Aipa will be in-charge of the Maprik Police Station.”
Supt Beli urged all policemen and women in the province to be self-disciplined. “Do not drink and go into places you are not allowed as you can be liable,” he said.

  • So the Police or any other law-abiding citizen are forbidden to be found in certain areas that are supposed to be open access to all? Superintendent Albert Beli, you should be ashamed of yourself instead of trying to defame a hero cop. Abert Beli, you are ceding and giving over public places to criminals and raskols and telling even a policeman he can’t be in certain places. What if the police commander was parked beside a public road? This article sounds like a Hit Piece. Who cares if he was only 3 months in the new Post? He shot in the dark? Since it was night, was he supposed to wait until morning and the sun come up to shoot? The only shame and reprimand you should give this hero officer is that he didn’t shoot and kill all four of the raskols that cut off his fingers. Just think what would have happened if he had not been armed. I don’t know all the details, but sounds like Superintendent Beli is giving the land of PNG to Raskols. I would suspect also that the raskols may be wontoks of Beli or the new station commander and maybe the so called journalist that wrote this hit piece

  • Two law-enforcers, a male and a female perhaps on special mission got attacked by rascals/murderers drawing first blood and the cops retaliated in self-defense…look olsem man i kisim free die.

  • What ever they were doing…does not entitle the Rascals or Beli to make conclusion. The two cops could have been killed, from this report I suggest Albert is putting the cart before the horse.

  • Should the 3Months old policeman be suspended or jailed for his killing.
    For Christ sake, its murder isn’t it? Suppose if he is suspended, that simply indicates that a policeman with gun can kill anybody on the street without being afraid of doing that because the law is under those donkeys covered with blue pants. They are still gonna be covered regardless of the crime they commit.
    Give the 3Months old policeman life year imprisonment.
    It is sad to know the fact that the law enforcers are the worse ones to violate the law they should have uphold and furnish.

  • The point is they (opposite sex) were at the wrong place at the wrong time so got attacked. Maybe they were already in the hollywood mood and the mobs intercepted them and commotion began which resulted in a lose of life. I hope the female officer is a single/mother.

  • these bit of information doesnt make sense at all,please check the journalist reporting,how can a senior Cop with a female cop already being attacked,in defense he fired shot in dark.There is no intention in killing that Raskol.

  • Nobody is above the law regardless of what status they hold in the police force. Let the law enforcers face the consequence of their guilty, what were they doing in this hot dark place, so now we know that male and females officers always play hide and seek while they on night shift. We don’t trust the police uniform you are wearing. Please Supt Bellie investigate these two culprits and refer them to court so they could face charges and terminated them. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

  • Question:
    What were they doing in a secluded area away from the Police Station between 10 – 11pm? It doesn’t add up.
    Common sense;
    As a senior officer, You can’t be alone with a female officer (standard of conduct).
    You officers are putting yourselves at risk and thus reap the consequences of your own actions, and it’s a disgrace to yourself and to your family.
