Officer to be arrested for allegedly selling pistol
The National, Wednesday September 9th, 2015
A National Intelligence Organisation officer is yet to be arrested for allegedly selling a Government-issued semi-automatic pistol to a member of the public, police said.
Acting Deputy Police Commissioner operation Jim Andrews said the officer had sold the gun for K10,000 in 2003 to a member of the public in Port Moresby.
“The pistol has been in the hands of the public for 12 years and we don’t know how the pistol has been used. But before the holder of the pistol died last year, he repented and surrendered the pistol to the PNG Revival Church senior Pastor Godfrey Wippon,” Andrews said.
“Pastor Wippon with his church elders then brought the pistol to us in April this year at the police headquarters in Konedobu.
“I’m still waiting for the outgoing National Crimes director Chief Supt Donald Yamasombi to provide an update of the incident’s investigations.”
