BUIMO jail commander Judy Tara is discouraging payment in return for information from the public.

She indicated there was demand for cash in return for information about escapees.

Tara said that Correctional Service and police were neither a charity organisation nor profit-making agency that could afford to pay for information.

“The idea is totally absurd and I condemn it because CS and police are providing state mandatory obligations to enforce law and order for the safety and security of communities,” she said.

“Security of our communities and society is of paramount importance.

“We all need to work together to instil peace and harmony and ensure human lives are free of threats from criminal activities.”

Parents and relatives are being urged to provide information so that escapees could be recaptured safely.

Tara said only 11 escapees have been recaptured, one surrendered and two were shot dead from the 68 that escaped from Buimo recently.

Two juveniles from a second breakout were recaptured and nine from this group are still at large.
