THE Pumaga government station in Southern Highlands needs funding and maintenance to be developed into a town, Kutubu local level government president John Pipi Kila says.

Kila said even though Pumaga was located in an area generating millions of kina in revenue, it had been neglected for too long.

He urged the Government to help the people of Foe and Faso turn Pumaga into a town.

“If Porgera can become a town, why not Pumaga?

“It is the supplier of oil in the country, same as Porgera which contributes gold,” he said.

Kila said the Government must fairly distribute revenue to all the people who had resources on their land.

Kila said services were reaching the people because of the change in leadership but it was important that the Pumaga government station be developed into a township.

“This is not for me but for the people to benefit as they are contributing towards the growth of the country’s economy,” Kila said.

Kila Sthanked Governor William Powi for the construction of a new road to Mt Bosave.

“My aim is to fix the town. I need the support from the government.

“We have the police station, banks, public servants but the face of the station does not look like a town,” Kila said.

He said that this his is great concern and that is to develop the Pumaga government station into a township like Porgera, Ok Tedi or Lihir.

Pumaga contributes oil to the country but it is not good when people are not seeing their station being developed into a township.
