THE Mendi Airport in Southern Highlands will open soon for normal flights after an inspection by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (Casa).
According to National Airports Corporation (NAC) managing director and chief executive officer Rex Kiponge, NAC was working closely with Casa to ensure the final assessment of the runway was complete.
Kiponge said the runway was already completed but work on the new terminal was still ongoing.
“A temporary terminal will be built and Mendi Airport should provide relief to the travelling public who fly into Kagamuga Airport in Mt Hagen,” he said.
“The terminal building is not complete, but we have completed the runway so we will use the runway.
“NAC is working with Casa to get it open.
“We will build a temporary terminal just to facilitate the passengers.”
